Bio
History has us compare new artists to seasoned artists,
young ones to old ones, rockers to folk singers, and everyone in between.
Mary Abraham holds a place with them all. The First Five is a showcase
and tribute to Mary's diversity as a writer and artist. She is both
honest and passionate - creating a sense of urgency in each of her
songs that illustrates her need to constantly explore, learn, change,
and grow.
Perhaps it's the 24-year-old's perpetual motion that makes her sound
so unique. Growing up in Warren, MI, she spent her high school years
studying and performing in musicals throughout the vast suburbia of
Metro-Detroit. She attended Michigan State University where she met
Jesse Young and began playing shows around the MSU campus. She blew
through MSU - graduating with honors - and by age of 21, had a Bachelor's
Degree in English; Specializations in Film, Public Relations, and
Religious Studies, and was ready to start her career in the Music
Industry.
Having a hunger to learn more about the Industry, Mary began working
as a Promotions Assistant and then as Events Coordinator at a Detroit,
'Market Ten' Radio Station. She was quickly promoted to Promotions
Coordinator and assisted in arranging concerts, artists' meet and
greets, CD release parties, and various other station events. Having
spent almost a year and a half at the station however, she began to
miss both creating and sharing her own music with others. She decided
to take her new-found knowledge of the Industry and apply it to her
career as an artist.
Since then, Mary has won countless Honorable Mention Awards in the
2003 and 2004 Billboard Song Writing Contests, and was the Runner-Up
in the 2004 Recording Academy’s Grammy Demo Review & Contest
for the Chicago Chapter. And this is only the beginning.
When talking about Mary Abraham, one must include the phrase, “a
long time coming.” Her music is incredibly driven, educated,
and passionate, and like me, I’m sure you will find it has been
worth the wait.
